The Bears are now heading into the second week of their search for a new Head Coach. This hired will be critical to whether Justin Fields can be the franchise Quarterback or will the Bears continue to Bears in Quarterback Purgatory? With this question in mind the Bears will start searching for their new Head Coach and there is no word from the Bears organization on who will be the next Head coach outside of Matt Eberflus the Colts OC getting a second interview and same for Ryan Poles a finalist for the GM job.
One of the leading candidates especially with the Bills out of the postseason with the heartbreaking lost to Kansas City is Brian Daboll the Bills Offensive Coordinator. Brian Daboll claim to fame is due to his development of Josh Allen from raw and flawed prospect into a top 5 NFL QB with back to back MVP caliber seasons. Because of his development of Josh Allen he is a leading candidate in many Bears fans minds and he is in my too. The biggest question mark with Daboll is that his lack of a running game and with the Bears strong personal in the run game with David Montgomery and Khalil Hebert it would be a massive waste of talent if Daboll didn't run the ball.
Another candidate that is a Bills assistant is there Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frazier who has many Bears fans worried. Frazier biggest problem is that he is old and a defensive
who may have trouble developing the offense and if he is successful with the offense his OC is likely to leave for a Head Coaching job of his own. But I don't want to be mean to Frazier and not point out his positive. He is a former Bears that played on the 85' defense and has turned Buffalo into the best defense in the league.
So now that we have explain the men up north let's move down south to another team with a Divisional playoff exit and two Coordinator that both could get a job this offseason.
The first of the two candidates is Byron Leftwich who is the Bucs OC and he gotten a lot of hype the past couple of weeks because of him learning under Bruce Arians and was a NFL QB before getting into coaching. Leftwich is a solid candidate, but many fear that he will struggle to branch outside of Arians and Tom Brady. The biggest problem I have with Leftwich is that he reminds me too much of Matt Nagy, who coach under an all time great Head Coach and had a veteran QB who could run the offense by themselves.
Another solid, but problem ridded candidate is the Bucs DC Todd Bowles. Bowles has had one previous head coaching job with the Jets where he had a 26-41 record. Bowles has his upside in that he is a former head coach and even though he failed, he now has experience and is someone who learned under a great head coach and can make improvements. He also is someone who has a great defensive strategy and can maximum the players on that side of the ball with Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, Jaylon Johnson, and Roquan Smith. Even though I want to stay positive with these candidates there is also a lot of problems with Bowles. Bowles like I said could learn from those experiences with the Jets or he could fail again as a head coach and the Bears are in the same place trying to find a new head coach 3 or 4 years later. The other major issue with Bowles is that he is a defensive guy and may struggle to get the offense going.
The final two candidates are two of the Bears Head Coaching finalists. The first one is Matt Eberflus who is the Colts DC. The biggest problem I have with him is that he is a DC and I don't know much about him as a HC, but the only Frank Reich disciple has major a success in Nick Sirianni the Eagles HC. Now onto the final candidate and my least favorite Jim Caldwell. I think that Caldwell is a decent HC, but that is the problem he is just decent. I think that he
was giving a back hand with Detroit, but I just don't know why he would be a great HC for Justin Fields or the development of the Bears roster. ***Two final note the Bears have hired a new GM Ryan Poles that was formerly with the Chiefs. And the final thing is that the Bears also interview the Saints DC Dennis Allen, but with the Sean Payton news I don't know how possible this is because I think he would replace Payton if he leaves.
