A look back at the 2017 Bears Draft class

The 2017 Bears class has been on of the most controversial in recent history. This draft class included a "franchise quarterback" who is Mitch Trubisky, a small college kid with massive potential in the second round in Adam Shaheen, another draftee was player whose college career was ended by an injury in Eddie Jackson, to end the draft the Bears took two shots in the dark at Running Back and Guard with Tarik Cohen and Jordan Morgan. Some of these pick will panel out for a couple of years in Eddie Jackson and Tarik Cohen. But others like Adam Shaheen and Jordan Morgan will barely play and will be gone in 3 years with little value. The first pick for the Bears become a major focal point for 4 painful years which were so hard for me to suffer though in some of my most vivid Bears memories.

Round 1 Pick 2: Mitch Trubisky Position: Quarterback College: North Carolina

Grade: C+

The biggest problem with Trubisky wasn't that he was a bust like Erik Leaf or Daniel Jones. Mitch Trubisky had the same problem that Baker Mayfield has with the Browns. Baker Mayfield's biggest problem has been that he is a mediocrite, the difference between Mayfield and Trubisky is that the Browns have been a much better organization with a better team over the past couple of years. I have been know to be a Trubisky defender and at this point it is more of a joke then anything else, but I will say this with more and more information about Matt Nagy and how he created a bad environment were he would just not talk to players if he was mad at them. This also lasted for years it was just for a week or two. For this reason I gave Mitch a C+ and not an F is because of the disfunction in the Matt Nagy leadership tree and the problems that it had as we learn more about what went on in the Bears' locker room.

Round 2 Pick 45: Adam Shaheen Position: Tight End College: Ashland

Grade: F

The Adam Shaheen pick was the second worst pick in the Ryan Pace regime only behind the Kevin White pick and the only reason why the pick was worse is because the White pick was a top 10 pick. Adam Shaheen was so bad that he never had more than 127 yards in one season and only lasted three season until he was traded to the Dolphins for a 6th round pick.

Round 4 Pick 112: Eddie Jackson Position: Safety College: Alabama

Grade: B

Eddie Jackson's grade was the pick that I had to give the most thought to. The reason why I gave Jackson a B was because his best seasons were at an All-Pro or Pro Bowl level, but his low are also pretty bad. His first season in 2017 was very much a developmentally year with some promise, but in 2018 he was one of the best Safeties in the NFL. To be honest no one saw what came next in 2019, were Jackson become one of the most unlucky people in the NFL with two pick six called back in the first couple of weeks and then his play start to fade and fade quickly. Even though the 2019 season was unlucky the 2020 and 2021 were both were very poor season for Jackson and the Bears secondary for the most part outside of Jaylon Johnson. So to based on all of this information I gave the pick a B because it was a 4th round pick with limited success but most 4th round picks don't have any success.

Round 4 Pick 119: Tarik Cohen Position: Running Back College: North Carolina A&T

Grade: B-

Just like Eddie Jackson, Tarik Cohen has had a rise and fall career arch. Though the injury in the Falcons game wasn't his fault it has defined his downfall. In both 2017 and 2018 Cohen look like another brilliant late pick by Ryan Pace. Instead in 2019 like the rest of the Bears offense Cohen had a bad season. Then three games into the 2020 season Cohen was injury and has yet to come back

Round 5 Pick 147: Jordan Morgan Position: Guard College: Kutztown

Grade: F

All I can say about this pick is that Jordan Morgan never worked out and was a bad pick. The only good thing thing about the pick was that it was a day 3 pick, so it didn't matter as much as the miss in the 2nd round.

So I would give this overall draft class a D+.
